Many families decide it is spring by looking at the calendar or the weather or the holidays. In my house, you can tell it’s spring when the dinner talk turns to prom. I guess it’s because over the years we have so many kids, the teenagers seem to flow nonstop. This year is no exception. It is my daughter, Leydi’s turn. Leydi will be graduating from high school this year and like any mother, I am vey proud! Prom talk took an interesting twist this year when Leydi approached me and asked if she and her friends could be driven to the event in the Flying Fingers Yarn Bus. All of a sudden, a rare event occurred. I’m not usually prone to nostalgia, but I couldn’t help but remember that cute, obnoxious little middle schooler who threw a huge fit (complete with swearing!) when we first drove up in the Yarn Bus – saying if anyone she knew ever associated her with that THING she would just DIE!! Now five years later…..
Stay tuned, I’ll post a photo of the kids in the Bus!
Another sign of spring is all the gorgeous lightweight fibers we have in the shop. You guys know I’ve always been more of a wooly girl. There’s nothing like a beautiful alpaca to turn me on. Every year, however, I notice more and more of a trend toward cooler lightweight fibers. Classic Elite Yarns has just popped into the shop with the coolest new yarn – called “Cotton Bamboo”. It’s 52% cotton & 48% bamboo. It feels scrumptious, the drape is lovely, the colors divine. Returning from Classic Elite we have Classic Silk, Sundance, Premiere, 4 Seasons and even some of the now discontinued Flash (great for baby clothes!)
We are working feverishly to get these yarns on our site, FlyingFingers.com. Until then, you are, as always free to call our toll free number for more info on these fabulous summer yarns!
And remember, if you happen to be in Westchester in the next couple of weeks and see a bunch of teens in the Yarn Bus – don’t worry – some of them actually DO knit! The beautiful one in the purple (is there any other color?) dress is mine!
Happy Prom Knitting Elise~
