It doesn’t really matter what the calendar says, to me, the first day of fall is always the day I put on a pair of socks – the good people of Tarrytown will attest to my barefooted-ness.  This is the day!  I wish I could say I put on a pair of gorgeous hand knitted ones, but alas, I give them all away.

What I do make for myself, however, is hand warmers.  Lots and lots of them.  People ask if my fingers get cold and they don’t actually, they keep my fingers surprisingly warm.  I love to drive with them,  type with them and more.

One reason I have so many is that it’s a great way for me to try out all the fabulous yarns.  My current favorite is Baby Suri from Misti Alpaca.  Mere words cannot describe….all I can say is you’ve got to feel this luscious fiber to believe it!

Now…to knit a pair of socks….

Hi…It’s been months since my last blog!  I feel like a confession is in order – I’m not really a writer.  I’m a great talker (as my friends, family and customers will attest to, but when it comes to writing my words on paper, I’m a big procrastinator.  Mea culpa…and I promise to try to do better this season.

Finishing…finishing…finishing…in our world that one word could mean several things.  It is also enough to strike terror in the hearts of knitters and crocheters everywhere.  For each of us the “fear” is just a bit different.  I have no problem finishing a garment in terms of weaving in the ends or sewing sides together.  Setting in a sleeve hasn’t been a problem for me since I learned a few tricks from my mom and honestly, whenever a sock seems to give me trouble – I ask for help with the Kitchener Stitch.  Thank you, Denise.

Often when I’m knitting, I zip through a project.  Sometimes it takes a while – sometimes I have three or four things on needles at the same time.  but usually I manage to finish projects in a somewhat reasonable time frame.  Occasionally, this is not the case.  For some unknown reason, and it varies every time, I just get plain stuck!  It doesn’t matter if I love the yarn, love the person I’m knitting for, love the project, anything could set me off….  I knit three/four rows and fall asleep.  Nothing like waking up with yarn tangled up in your hair and needles poking into your side to know you are NEVER going to finish that darn sweater.  Or in this case…Those darn socks….Bob’s darn socks, to be more precise.  Some of you may remember when I first started talking about them on this very blog.  I would look up the date, but that would be too embarrassing.  This socks are now finished, the Alpaca Sox is still divine and you can now buy it at FlyingFingers.com

I just hope Bob is happy with them!  Keep knitting………..
