Happy New Year!
January is the time for knitting blankets! What could be more cozy than curling up with your knitting and being able to cover yourself with it, at the same time? Of course, the blanket I’m currently knitting, I started as a birthday gift for my son, Maxx, last July. It has grown veerrry slowly this fall….other knitting priorities and all. No matter, I have been working steadily on it since he arrived home for Winter Break and plan on having it finished before he leaves in a few weeks.

I am loving this entire project! Maxx worked in the Flying Fingers warehouse the last two years he was in high school. This boy KNOWS his yarn (even though he won’t readily admit it!). When it came time to choose the fiber for his blanket, he went straight to Weaver’s wool from Mountains Colors. A delightful choice! He also knew that being hand painted yarn, each of the skeins would vary slightly. Maxx, being my boy, carefully chose skeins that were the least similar. The effect is striking! Being that I started this in July, I had plenty of time and thought it would be fun to do a reverse cable pattern and of course, I wanted him to have a blanket, not an afghan, so it is wider than the patten calls for.

And it is fun!…And beautiful…And time consuming! All things you want a handmade present for your son’s 18th birthday to entail.
Don’t worry, Maxxi, I promise, I WILL give you this blanket when it is finally finished……..
